Woman claims she was sexually harassed by Denver Mint police officer in 2022

DENVER (KDVR) – A woman is suing the U.S. government and a Denver Mint police officer over allegations that the officer sexually assaulted her at the Denver Mint in 2022.

According to the complaint, the woman worked as an independent contractor at the Denver Mint in 2022. She was reportedly a trained nurse and provided healthcare services.

The woman claims that on November 9, 2022, she was busy stocking shelves in the nurses’ rooms at the Denver Mint, when the officer tracked her whereabouts using surveillance cameras.

The nurse claims the officer made “repeated unwanted advances and a series of sexual assaults” against her at the U.S. Mint’s medical offices in Denver. The lawsuit alleges that on November 9, 2022, the officer went even further than before by approaching her from behind and forcibly restraining her during the alleged rape.

According to the lawsuit, the woman had previously used violence by pushing and hitting the officer. She claims he “pushed her against the wall” before making sexual advances toward her without her consent.

She also claimed that she was “in shock and her hands were tied” after the attack and that the police officer “made it clear to her that he was using the security cameras” to follow her. She also said that the police officer’s privileged access to the property, his authority and the presence of his gun, training and handcuffs enabled him to overpower and rape her.

The lawsuit details the administrative process the nurse went through after the alleged rape, reporting the assaults to U.S. Mint Police inspectors, the Office of the Inspector General and her immediate supervisor.

Nurse: Officer’s previous actions led to an agreement

The lawsuit also alleges that the officer had acted inappropriately on multiple occasions before. The nurse also claimed that the allegations against the officer resulted in a settlement of approximately $100,000 with a “minor female victim,” along with an offer to “pay her college tuition.”

The nurse claims the government “knew or should have known that its employees … had created a dangerous situation on its premises.” She also says the government has an obligation to ensure the safety of U.S. Mint employees and contract workers.

According to the nurse, the officer received a promotion and raise following his alleged past misconduct. She also claims there was an investigation into the officer by investigative firm Sanin Global Solutions, which reported that the officer named in the lawsuit “acted inappropriately on multiple occasions toward a minor female who was interning at the U.S. Mint.”

The nurse claims that the officer’s “act of coercive sexual contact” resulted in her being “unjustly arrested, which is a violation of her rights under the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution.” She is seeking $2.5 million in compensation for her economic losses as well as litigation costs.
