Polk Street shooting leaves 17-year-old injured after suspected intoxicated woman sideswipes vehicle, Houston police say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A 48-year-old woman was drunk when she crashed into another vehicle, then opened fire on a 17-year-old passenger who got out to approach her, Houston police said.

Police took the woman into custody Thursday evening after the victims told officers about the crash and shooting that occurred in the 2000 block of Polk Street, near U.S. 59.

According to an HPD lieutenant, police received a call at 11:20 p.m. about a shooting that left a 17-year-old girl injured in the shoulder. Investigators said a woman driving alone struck a vehicle with a man and the teen inside.

Both vehicles then stopped at a red light, where the teen got out to approach the woman, who fired multiple shots through her window, police said. The victim ran back and the suspect left.

Police say an HPD officer was nearby during a traffic stop and heard the gunshots. The victims went to this police officer and told him what had happened.

Other officers obtained information about the suspect’s white Audi and followed it near Jensen Drive, where police stopped it without incident.

Police have not yet identified the suspect, but said she faces a DWI charge. Charges related to the shooting remain under investigation.
