Missing Mesa man found dead, police said

MESA, Arizona – Mesa police announced Wednesday the end of the search for a missing elderly man after his body was found near the 202 Freeway and University Drive.

Robert Haymaker, 88, of Mesa, was last seen at his home near N 92nd Street and E McLellan Road on the morning of June 14. His son reported him missing to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office later that evening.

In a press release, authorities said Haymaker was suffering from an illness and was at high risk of becoming confused and disorientated.

Haymaker was found dead near a retaining wall by Mesa maintenance workers on June 18.

Mesa police conducted a preliminary investigation into the patient’s death and stated that no foul play was suspected in his death.

The Maricopa County Coroner’s Office has taken custody of the body and will determine the official cause of death.
