Frustrated fisherman expresses his anger with a photo taken at the local lake: “It’s really not difficult”

One fisherman recently took to the r/Fishing subreddit to vent his frustration over an all-too-common scenario.

“It’s really not hard to clean up after yourself when you’re done fishing, guys,” wrote the poster. “I know most people who spend their time outside hunting/fishing don’t leave trash behind, but damn, when I find trash within 5 feet of trash cans, I get all pissed.”

"I just can't believe that this kind of waste is an accident. It's pure indifference."

The other members of the forum shared the pain of the original poster.

“It’s so easy to take out what you take. I can’t believe it’s an accident to throw away trash like that. It’s just indifference,” wrote one commenter. “Whole balls of fishing line are left lying around when the easiest thing to do is put them in your pocket. Worm bins are a bit messy but just take a grocery bag with you and throw it back in your fishing bag. The simplest thing to do isn’t hard.”

“I don’t understand how someone can love nature and denigrate it like that,” wrote another.

As these commentators have suggested, being able to enjoy nature is a wonderful privilege, and one that is all too easily abused. Whenever we have the opportunity to spend time in nature, we should try to do as little harm as possible, out of respect for our fellow humans enjoying nature, and for the plants and animals that call this area home.

The more we abuse nature, the less we can enjoy it. That’s true in the broadest sense – human activities are destroying the environment around the world and are constantly reducing the patches of pristine nature we have left. But it’s true on a smaller scale too – if you leave a pile of trash next to a lake, the city might close off access to the lake, as another commenter noted.

“Smallish Lake near me was closed by the state because so much trash was going there and lazy people were leaving things lying around. And this after more signs and trash cans were put up and the DNR gave out tickets and people were given countless chances. And now the same people are whining and complaining about why they can’t use the lake and all the beautiful things it brings,” the commenter wrote.
