Chad Kelly decided to take his talents to the CFL after failing to make it in the NFL, but his future is once again uncertain as he has been suspended from the league following an incident with a female coach who claims he threatened him She was suspended after rejecting his romantic advances.

If you’ve kept an eye on Chad Kelly over the years, you probably know that the quarterback’s career has largely been defined by his inability to stay out of trouble while costing money.

The nephew of legendary Bills quarterback Jim Kelly spent a few seasons at Clemson before being fired for conduct detrimental to the team. He spent a year in exile at East Mississippi Community College and got into trouble after being arrested for assault before joining forces with Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss, where he bounced back thanks to his standout junior season.

Unfortunately, his senior career was cut short by a knee problem, which (along with his off-field issues) undoubtedly contributed to his earning the Mr. “Irrelevant” received when the Broncos selected him with the last overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Kelly was fired from Denver the following year after she was arrested again for drunkenly stumbling into a stranger’s house after a Halloween party. He was given another chance with the Colts but never played, and when he was released in 2020, his NFL career effectively ended after four seasons in which he played a total of one snap (a knee at the end of a game).

The QB eventually got the chance to restart his career with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL and took full advantage of the opportunity. He came off the bench and led his team to Gray Cup victory in 2022. He received the Most Outstanding Players award in 2023 after securing the starting position and it seemed like the 30-year-old had finally managed to turn things around.

However, things took a turn earlier this year when a strength and conditioning coach employed by the Argonauts sued Kelly and the team. In the filing, she claimed she was subjected to “unwanted romantic advances” from the QB and that the team ignored her complaints and ultimately fired her after he verbally threatened her when she rejected him.

Kelly strongly, but loudly, denied any wrongdoing on his part Pro football talk, The CFL determined those allegations had merit before deciding to slap him with a nine-game suspension while also ordering him to complete counseling if he wants to be reinstated.

The CFL’s preseason is scheduled to begin later this month before the regular season begins in June, and as things stand, Kelly won’t be eligible until late August.
