Teenage girl found with gun and alcohol in parking lot

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Two Rockford teenagers have been charged after police responded to them with information about finding open alcohol and a loaded gun.

One girl, 17 years old, is accused of aggravated unlawful use of weapons and illegal possession/transportation of alcohol. The other, 16 years old, is accused of illegal possession/transportation of alcohol.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, June 8, officers reported seeing a suspicious vehicle in the Auto Zone parking lot on South Alpine Road. When they investigated, they found the teens inside the vehicle, along with alcohol and a loaded gun with a laser light attachment.

The 17-year-old was taken to the Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center and the 16-year-old was released to a parent.
