Celebrity stylist Aleksander Janik taken into custody after attack on Chelsea Rabbi

New York celebrity stylist Aleksander Janik was arrested on Friday after allegedly attacking a rabbi outside New York’s Chelsea Hotel. Police told The Daily Beast they arrested Janik at 10 a.m. and charged him with hate crime, assault, and assault with intent to cause injury. As The Daily Beast reported this week, Rabbi Chezky Wolff claimed the confrontation began when Janik’s dog ran toward the doors of the Chelsea Shul and Wolff asked Janik to put the dog on a leash. Wolff claimed Janik responded by muttering “dirty Jews,” at which point Wolff began picking up and following Janik down the street. Janik then swung his shopping bag, hitting Wolff in the face and knocking his kippah off his head. Janik told The Daily Beast a different story, claiming his dog was laying down outside the synagogue to avoid the heat when Wolff opened the door and told the two to move away. Janik added that Wolff called him a “Pole” before he started kicking Hudson. He strongly denied using an insult and said he himself was Jewish. “I love Jews … my grandmother died in Auschwitz,” he said.
