According to the Camden County District Attorney’s Office, Tran shot the victim with his service weapon after an accident on May 17 in Voorhees, New Jersey.

When Voorhees police officers were called to the car crash at the intersection of Route 73 and Cooper Road, they found one of the drivers had suffered a gunshot wound, the CCPO said.

The victim was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where he remains under treatment, authorities told Patch.

The NYPD has suspended Tran without pay, a department spokesperson told Patch. He has been an NYPD officer since early 2021. Last year, he earned a base salary of $53,600 and received nearly $11,000 in paid overtime, according to public records.

Tran, a resident of Yonkers, New York, was identified as the shooter through surveillance footage, cellphone records and ballistics data, authorities said.

He is being held in New York and is pending extradition to New Jersey.
