Man wanted for tearing up a sign outside a Brooklyn mosque in an anti-Muslim attack

Police said Friday that investigators are searching for a man who allegedly smashed a sign outside a mosque in Brooklyn during a hate-filled anti-Islamic attack.

The vandal allegedly threw an unidentified object at the sign in front of Muhammad Mosque 7C on Pennsylvania Avenue near Glenmore Avenue in East New York at around 1:30 a.m. on May 29.

The sign was part of a banner stretched across a narrow driveway between two buildings, police said. The sign was damaged when the object the suspect threw ripped a hole in it, cops said.

Surveillance video showed the suspect fleeing the scene. Members of the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force were investigating.

On Friday, police released surveillance images of the suspect in the hopes that someone will recognize him. He is described as black, about 6 feet tall, of medium build, with tattoos on his right arm.

He was last seen wearing a black hat, black t-shirt, black pants, and white and gray sneakers.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be treated confidentially.
