Troy adds Houston Christian quarterback transfer for 2024

Troy now has five quarterbacks on its 2024 football roster after the recent addition of Montana Wells, a transfer from Houston Christian.

Wells (6-foot-5, 210 pounds) did not see a game as a true freshman in 2023 for the Huskies, an FCS program. After redshirting, he has four seasons of eligibility remaining.

Wells joins junior Goose Crowder, sophomore Tucker Kilcrease, Gardner-Webb transfer Matthew Caldwell and true freshman Caleb McCreary as quarterbacks on Troy’s updated roster for 2024. Caldwell and McCreary, a former Montgomery Catholic star, also joined the program this summer.

Wells is the fourth addition to the transfer portal for the Trojans during the summer 2024 cycle, joining Caldwell, safety Ian Conerly-Goodly (Southeast Louisiana) and wide receiver Marquez “Mojo” Dortch (California) . Troy must replace four-year starting quarterback Gunnar Watson, whose eligibility expired after leading the team to its second straight Sun Belt Conference championship in 2023.

Troy – led by first-year coach Gerad Parker – opens the 2024 season at home on Aug. 31 against Nevada.
