Dog attack at Pinebluff Lake leaves couple and pet injured

What should have been a beautiful day for families enjoying Pinebluff Lake nearly ended in tragedy Thursday evening when a dog and its owners were attacked by another dog running off-leash nearby.

An elderly couple were walking their small dog on a leash along the lakeshore when a large dog charged at them and attacked their own dog. The woman was thrown to the ground and the man was bitten on the hand as he tried to rescue their dog.

Passersby called 911 and rushed to help. The owners of the large white dog managed to grab their dog and put him back on the leash.

Witnesses on the scene reported that the large dog was initially on a leash at the beach, but the leash was eventually removed. They said the large dog was fine until he saw the smaller dog on the other side of the lake and “ran after him.”

The smaller dog was injured but is expected to recover. The dog’s owners were treated by Pinebluff Fire Department rescue personnel and later examined by EMS. They were not taken to the hospital.

Meanwhile, the owners of the large dog left the scene of the accident. Passersby filmed the owners leaving with their dog and the police were able to identify the vehicle. According to Police Lieutenant Daniel Thomas of the Pinebluff Police, the owner of the aggressive dog will be charged with violating the leash law.

The Pinebluff Fire and Rescue Department, Moore County EMS and Pinebluff Police responded to the incident.
