DC police remove George Washington University protest camp – NBC4 Washington

D.C. police began clearing the pro-Palestinian protest camp on the George Washington University campus early Wednesday.

The police operation began overnight after school administrators asked for help in removing students and others from campus grounds. People were arrested. The number of arrests was not immediately announced.

“They came in full riot gear – hundreds of police,” one protester said. She said police pushed protesters and sprayed them with chemical irritants.

The students sang and recorded on their cell phones.

D.C. police repeatedly said they would allow peaceful protesters to remain.

Police said these roads were closed:

  • 2000 block of H Street, NW between 20th and 23rd Streets, NW
  • Eastbound 2100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue NW from 21st Street to 20th Street NW
  • Northbound 600 – 800 blocks of 20th Street, NW from F Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
