Two women charged in Scranton murder case

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police have filed charges against two women in connection with the investigation into a murder in Scranton in which a man was shot.

According to Scranton police, 24-year-old Kyler Pitt and 20-year-old Victoria Hoovler-Santiago, both of Scranton, were charged with hindering apprehension and lying to police in connection with the investigation into the death of 36-year-old Ben Thompson.

The shooting occurred on May 15 around 11:45 p.m. in the 1800 block of Jackson Street, where Thompson was found dead in his car.

Two men were arrested last month in connection with the shooting, 24-year-old Rahjuan Marquel Morgan of Scranton and 22-year-old Quamir Robinson of Dunmore.

According to the affidavit, officers interviewed Pitt and Hoovler-Santiago at the police station on May 16. Both misled or lied to officers about Robinson’s whereabouts and falsely accused another man.

Investigators determined that Hoovler-Santiago called Robinson an Uber to help him flee the scene. According to court documents, police also found text messages between Pitt and Hoovler-Santiago in which the two planned to hide any clothing Robinson was wearing the night of the shooting.

Morgan and Robinson remain in the Lackawanna County Jail without bail. Pitt and Hoovler-Santiago await a preliminary hearing.
