Louisiana, check your refrigerators now!

With Shreveport’s water quality recently receiving an “F” rating, many residents are concerned about the safety of water in Shreveport. However, William Daniel, director of Shreveport Water & Sewerage, recently told KEEL News that the poor rating has nothing to do with actual water safety, but rather with infrastructure issues.

First, let me say that this is not about the safety of drinking water, but rather about the reliability of the system. Our water is 100 percent safe and will remain so.

But if you’ve recently stocked up on bottled water as a precaution, you may want to check your fridge or pantry. The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued a recall warning for over 78,000 cases of bottled water.

According to the FDA report:

Reason for the recall:

Solid tests revealed manganese in addition to three bacterial genera.

The recall, issued by Natural Waters of Viti Limited, originally began on March 4 as a voluntary recall and is still ongoing. According to the National Institute of Health, manganese poisoning has occurred when consuming water containing high levels of manganese. However, a company spokesman said that this product is unlikely to negative consequences for health.

Who is affected?

The recall affects water sold in Washington, as well as bottles distributed directly to consumers and sold online nationwide.

Anyone who has purchased the product and would like more information can contact Fiji Water at 1-866-4149.

Consumers can receive a refund or simply throw away the product if they have one of the affected water containers.
