Matthew Sutcliffe, who raped two women in their sleep and abused a young girl in Dundee, has been jailed

A man who raped two women in their sleep was sentenced to nine years in prison.

Matthew Sutcliffe preyed on victims at various addresses in Dundee during a three-year campaign of abuse.

During this time, the 35-year-old also threatened and insulted a young girl.

Sutcliffe was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday.

He had previously been found guilty of six charges in a trial in Paisley, including the rape of the two women.

The crimes occurred between 2017 and 2020.

In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Scott Pattison ordered that Sutcliffe, from Dundee, will be under supervision for a further two years after his release.

The attacks on one of the women also occurred while she was awake.

Judge Pattison described her to Sutcliffe as follows: “You raped her repeatedly, essentially putting pressure on her and forcing her to keep the peace.”

He said the crimes were “persistent and serious”.

Sutcliffe was also given restraining orders prohibiting him from having any contact with the victims.

Judge Pattison: “If you breach that, it will be a separate offence.”

Sutcliffe was also placed on the sex offenders’ list indefinitely.
