Weather warning for North Texas includes damaging winds and hail

NORTH TEXAS — A weather warning was issued for North Texas for Sunday evening.

The severe thunderstorm that triggered the warning for Dallas and Tarrant counties has weakened, but light hail, gusty winds and heavy rain are still possible from the remaining thunderstorms in Dallas County.

A tornado warning is in effect for Dallas, Johnson and Tarrant counties until 11 p.m.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected on Sunday evening, with further showers and thunderstorms possible after midnight. Lowest temperatures will be just over 25 degrees.

Another storm complex will move into North Texas overnight from Sunday to Monday, bringing potentially destructive winds.

A flood warning has been issued for Dallas for the Trinity River through Wednesday morning. Water levels were at 28.8 feet Sunday evening. Flood stage is 30 feet. The river is expected to rise above flood stage late Sunday and peak at 35.9 feet early Monday afternoon. It is expected to fall below flood stage Tuesday afternoon.

A flood warning has been issued for Denton Creek in Justin through Wednesday morning. The creek level was 11 feet Sunday evening. The flood stage is 10 feet. It is expected to rise to a peak of 13.3 feet early Monday afternoon and fall below flood stage early Tuesday afternoon.

A flood warning has also been issued for Rowlett Creek in Sachse through Monday morning. The creek level was measured at 18.9 feet on Sunday evening. The flood stage is 24 feet. It is expected to rise to 24.3 feet late Sunday before falling to 10.1 feet on Monday afternoon.

Warming during the day may result in some afternoon thunderstorms on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but overall it will dry out by mid-week. Unfortunately, that means our temperatures will start to rise again and we’ll be back in the 30s, with triple-digit feels.
