Fatal shooting at Austin apartment complex under investigation | Texas

Austin, Texas – Late Wednesday night, Austin police responded to a fatal shooting at a local apartment complex.

On May 22, 2024, officers arrived at 9601 Middle Fiskville Road at approximately 9:59 p.m. following a report of shots fired. They discovered a Hispanic male named Wilfredo Benitez-Jimenez, 35, of Austin, Texas, with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of Austin-Travis County Emergency Services, Benitez-Jimenez was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:13 p.m.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were dispatched to the scene to collect evidence and interview potential witnesses. Preliminary investigations indicate that Benitez-Jimenez was shot in his home by unknown assailants who then fled the scene in a vehicle.

Austin police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 512-974-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program, either online at austincrimestoppers.org or by phone at 512-472-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

This incident is the 23rd homicide in Austin in 2024, and the investigation is ongoing.
