The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday filed charges against expelled TMC dictator Shahjahan Sheikh and six others in connection with the attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali on January 5.

Sheikh was arrested by Bengal police on February 29 after being on the run for 55 days. The women had led violent protests and accused him of sexual atrocities and land grabbing. He had been missing since the attack on the ED team that had raided his house in connection with the alleged food scam.

The CBI took over the case and custody of Sheikh on March 6, following a direction from the Calcutta High Court. In its FIR dated March 5, the CBI booked Sheikh under IPC sections for sedition and criminal intimidation, among others.

He is accused of inciting a mob to attack the ED officials. The investigating agency had said in a statement that three of its officials sustained serious injuries and had to be hospitalized after they were attacked by a mob of 800 to 1,000 people.
