Did Ajit Pawar call Pune police commissioner after Porsche accident? What he said | India News

NEW DELHI: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday confirmed that he had called the Pune police commissioner following the Porsche accident.

Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, the deputy chief minister said, “As people’s representatives, we get calls about such accidents. I contacted the police commissioner and told him that the accused boy was from a wealthy family and there was a possibility of the police being pressured. I told him not to give in to any political pressure.”

Previously, social activist Anjali Damania had claimed that he had called the Pune police commissioner after the Porsche accident.

Pawar blamed the teenager’s parents for the accident and said that the parents ignored his behaviour, which led to the death of two young professionals. “The behaviour of the minor in the Pune accident is highly irresponsible. It happened because the teenager’s parents ignored his behaviour. The son is in an observation home and his father and grandfather have been arrested,” he said.

Asked about his party’s MP Sunil Tingare, who had visited Yerawada police station in Pune hours after the accident in Kalyani Nagar district, Pawar said, “Tingare himself made his stand clear. Later, he met me in Pune and gave his version. I have asked the top police officials to take strict action against police officers or doctors who tried to dilute the investigation.”

Meanwhile, two doctors from Sassoon General Hospital who were arrested for destroying evidence against the minor have been remanded in police custody until May 30.

Another arrested hospital employee was also taken into police custody for three days. Among those arrested is the head of the hospital’s forensic department.

In the accident, which occurred early in the morning of May 19, two IT professionals were killed when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding Porsche Taycan, allegedly driven by the minor, at 2:30 am in Kalyaninagar.

The police also obtained video footage from one of the pubs the boy had visited, where he allegedly paid a bill of Rs 48,000. The blood sample of the minor accused, who was taken to Sasoon Hospital for medical examination, was allegedly swapped with another sample during the course of investigation.

According to police, the teenager was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. It later emerged that the minor’s blood samples had been switched with those of another person who had not consumed alcohol. As police waited for the results of the blood samples, the manipulation came to light.

To prevent further manipulation, the police had taken two blood samples from the boy. According to the Pune police commissioner, the second blood sample indicated that the accused teenager had consumed alcohol.
