Buffalo Bills rookie accused of gang rape, urged teens to get tested for STDs, lawsuit says

In a civil lawsuit filed in San Diego County Superior Court, Matt Araiza, the Buffalo Bills rookie known as the “Punt God,” is accused of participating in the gang rape of a drunken 17-year-old high school student last year while attending San Diego State University.

The lawsuit states that the incident occurred at a Halloween party between October 16 and 17, when the teenager was given a drink that “contained not only alcohol but also other intoxicating substances” and was attacked by several men.

Araiza is specifically accused of forcing the teenager to perform oral sex on him before he “pulled her up from the ground, turned her over with her back to the party and penetrated her from behind.”

The lawsuit goes on to say he then took her to a bedroom where his teammates “took turns raping her for an hour and a half.” The teen said she lost consciousness during the assault.

According to the lawsuit, police helped the teen call the other players and Araiza to confirm the incident. During the recorded phone call, Araiza told the young woman that his chlamydia test was positive and asked her to get tested.

Then he said, “So you know what to get tested for. OK, that puts me at ease a bit.”

In a statement to USA todayThe Bills said the team was “recently made aware of a civil lawsuit filed against Matt in October 2021” and “due to the seriousness of the complaint, we have thoroughly reviewed this matter. As this is an ongoing civil proceeding, we are unable to provide any further comment at this time.”

Kerry Armstrong, an attorney for Araiza, told the Los Angeles Times The allegations were false and an investigator commissioned to investigate said witnesses had refuted the allegations.

“It’s blackmail because he’s with the Buffalo Bills now,” Armstrong said. “There’s no doubt in my mind that Matt Araiza ever raped the girl.”
