85-year-old woman collides with pedestrian in Spring Lake Heights

Authorities are investigating an incident in which an 85-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a car in Spring Lake Heights.

The incident was announced Sunday in a joint statement by Monmouth County Attorney Raymond S. Santiago and Spring Lake Heights Police Chief Edward W. Gunnell.

Pilice said the collision occurred around 1:20 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, when Spring Lake Heights Police officers responded to a report of a crash involving a car and a pedestrian at the intersection of Old Mill Road and Allaire Road.

According to the investigation, a 70-year-old man driving a 2023 Nissan Rogue was turning left from southbound Old Mill Road onto eastbound Allaire Road when he struck the pedestrian crossing Allaire Road.

At 1:56 p.m. the pedestrian was pronounced dead.

The driver remained on site and cooperated with the authorities.

The investigation is ongoing and involves members of the Monmouth County District Attorney’s Office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Spring Lake Heights Township Police Department.
