First weather warning: An unsettled holiday weekend is ahead, yellow warning still in force

ROCHESTER, NY – We wake up to a wonderful start Saturday morning, with temperatures starting at around 10 degrees and skies shining with plenty of sunshine.

Sunny skies will eventually give way to thunderstorms Saturday afternoon, and cool morning temperatures will reach highs in the 80s. With storms expected to hit our region Saturday afternoon, the First Alert Weather Team will maintain the yellow warning. Isolated storms will move in early afternoon before scattered showers and thunderstorms move in late afternoon. They will not last all Saturday afternoon and evening as it dries out late. However, storms will bring with them the risk of strong, gusty winds and locally heavy rain.

Weather conditions for Saturday are light, but the biggest impact will be for those with outdoor plans Saturday afternoon. Things will be much better on Sunday as we expect dry weather under partly cloudy skies and highs around 27 degrees. Any outdoor plans on Sunday will be safe as it will remain dry. We’ll see clouds increase Sunday evening, giving way to an isolated shower or thunderstorm by daybreak on Memorial Day.

So far Monday morning looks mostly dry, but showers and thunderstorms will increase Monday afternoon. With restrictions on outdoor activities again in place on Monday, the First Alert Weather Team will maintain the yellow warning for Memorial Day.

The acute threat situation is very low for us, but we will monitor it closely over the next 24 hours.
