US lawmakers call for investigation into abrupt closure of East Bay prison

Shortly thereafter, BOP responded by completely shutting down FCI Dublin, where allegations of sexual assault had been made for decades. Since then, several women have complained of severe mistreatment throughout the transfer process, including lack of access to toilets and medication, and hostile and abusive behavior from guards at their new facility.

The latest series of scandals began after an investigation by the Related Press in 2021. It exposed a culture of abuse and cover-ups that had existed for years at the low-security federal prison for women.

Eight former correctional officers of FCI Dublin, including the former director and chaplain, were convicted and charged and seven received sentences.

The letter, sent Friday, was signed by Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10), Congressman Judy Chu (CA-28), Congressman Anna Eshoo (CA-16), Congressman Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18), Congressman Sydney Kamlager-Dove (CA-37), Congressman Barbara Lee (CA-12), Congressman Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Congressman Adam Schiff (CA-30), Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), and Congressman Eric Swalwell (CA-14).
