Authorities say a boat was found that struck and killed the 15-year-old Florida ballerina

Authorities are one step closer to learning more about the death of 15-year-old Ella Adler.

Ella died on Saturday, May 11, after she was struck by a boat while water skiing near Nixon Beach in Key Biscayne, Florida, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) said in an earlier statement.

The FWS noted that the “center console boat with a light blue hull” and “multiple white outboard motors” fled the scene and asked that witnesses come forward.

On Tuesday, the FWC announced in a press release and on Instagram that a vessel “matching the description” is now in its custody.

According to WTVJ, the boat was “behind a home in the Hammock Oaks neighborhood of southwest Miami-Dade.” Although the identity of the boat’s owner was not released, the FWC said that “the owner of the vessel is cooperating with the investigation.”

The FWC added: “While significant progress has been made, this investigation remains open; the public’s support continues to be needed.”

FWC Chairman Rodney Barreto called the teen ballerina’s death a “huge loss this Mother’s Day weekend.”

“As Chairman of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, I want to thank all of our officers and those from various law enforcement agencies who have worked and continue to work tirelessly on this investigation. “The FWC and its officials have requested additional resources from other parts of the state and have been working around the clock to locate the vessel involved in the accident,” Barreto’s press release said.

The chairman confirmed that the investigation was ongoing and said: “As a father and grandfather, my heart breaks for the Adler family.”

“Ella’s death is devastating for her family, friends and the community at large. The FWC and our partner law enforcement agencies will not stop until we have all the answers and the case is solved,” his statement continued.

Her obituary describes Ella as someone who “worked hard in everything she did.”

“Ella shined on stage as a ballerina in The Nutcracker and performed in over 100 performances with Miami City Ballet at the Adrienne Arsht Center. Her magnetism radiated onto the stage, where she belonged and thrived,” the obituary says, adding that Ella was also there, performing with the Ransom Everglades dance team.
