The New Bedford murder suspect confirmed his involvement in the shooting, police said

NEW BEDFORD — Murder suspect Christopher Smith, who allegedly shot Ronald Sinclair after an argument at his mother’s home, confirmed the shooting during an interview, police said.

According to the police report, Smith “made affirmative statements that he shot Sinclair” and that he was told by a higher spirit to “send him up.”

Police said Smith repeatedly made “imprecise statements” during the interview about his spiritual beliefs, good and evil, and his involvement in Sinclair’s death.

He told police he was using fentanyl but was detoxing himself.

The victim was visiting when he was shot

A witness said the two men argued at 51 Austin St. on Monday afternoon, April 29, and Smith, 38, left and came back with a gun.

According to the police report, the 60-year-old victim shared the children with Smith’s mother and was visiting when he was shot.
