The severe storm threat increases tonight and continues into Tuesday morning

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Hopefully the weather was pleasant on your Mother’s Day. The clouds prevented the sun from shining on all the crawfish boils. But these clouds also signal a change in the weather that could affect you in the coming days.

Storms are likely to develop primarily north of the lake tonight. The likelihood of them becoming severe to severe is low and many persist into the morning and possibly during the commute. There could also be a few morning storms south of the lake. So be sure to tune in to FOX 8 Morning Edition to track where the storms are forming and where they are likely to move.

On Monday we get a little break through the day. A few isolated storms could still be seen, but the larger impacts are expected to occur late into Monday night. A series of storms will move through, bringing damaging winds and flooding. We have also seen training where the same area is repeatedly hit by one storm after another. This significantly increases the risk of flooding.

We are already under flood watch from this evening until Tuesday morning. This means that any storm that passes through could bring heavy rainfall. In some places it could quickly reach 4-6″, resulting in street flooding.

Storms will subside early Tuesday morning and we will stay dry through Wednesday. Further strong storms are expected on Thursday and Friday.
