Topton man killed in Maxatawny crash on Route 222

A Topton man died in a crash on Route 222 in Maxatawny Township late Saturday evening, according to state police.

Soldiers gave this report:

Jerry L. Gambler, 67, was driving on Topton Road and attempted to turn onto Route 222 without proper clearance. His car was struck by a pickup truck driven by Pernell Hill, 59, Allentown, who was traveling north on Route 222.

Gambler was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:31 a.m. by Berks County Coroner’s Office officials.

Hill was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown with possible injuries. Details about his condition were not available.

State Police were assisted at the scene by Kutztown Fire Rescue, Topton Volunteer Fire Department and Topton Ambulance and Fire Department.
