Two vigilantes have been arrested for raping an Oyo student

Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State, on Saturday announced the arrest of two members of its monitoring group for allegedly raping a female student at the institution.

The management, in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Olufemi Atoyebi, said the university has set up an internal investigative panel to investigate the May 9, 2024 incident.

Atoyebi said the suspects were handed over to the police with the promise that after a thorough investigation, a heavy sentence would be imposed on anyone found guilty.

The statement read in part: “The management of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, has received with shock a report of the alleged rape of one of our female students on Thursday, May 9, 2024, by two members of our vigilance group.” The management handed over The two alleged perpetrators were immediately reported to the police, while the university set up an internal investigative committee to investigate the allegation.

“Management would like to reassure all stakeholders that ACU will not tolerate any misconduct that could tarnish its enviable image. Raising God-fearing intellectuals is our primary goal in ACU, and we will not tolerate any wrongdoing that may divert our attention from our goal. A severe sentence awaits anyone found guilty following our thorough investigation.”
