Man identified in rape of unconscious woman on Bronx Street: NYPD

Correction: The man wanted in connection with the rape has been identified but remains at large.

THE BRONX, NY (PIX11) – Police identified a man who allegedly choked a woman with a belt and raped her between two cars on a Bronx street last week.

Kashaan Parks, 39, who has been arrested five times, is the suspect wanted in connection with the May 1 attack near 152nd Street and Third Avenue, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny.

The 45-year-old woman was walking down the street when a suspect came up from behind and put the belt around her neck. the viral video shows. As the video shows, the man, who was covering his face with a white towel, then used the belt to drag the unconscious woman several meters across the sidewalk and onto the street between two parked cars. Police said the suspect then raped her.

According to Kenny, a possible prostitution deal may have been the trigger for the violent attack.

“They were together earlier in the evening. There may have been a promise of sex for money. We’re still working on that,” Kenny said at a press conference on Friday.

Authorities said Parks and the victim knew each other in the neighborhood and that the woman identified Parks by a gap in his teeth.

The victim was arrested for petty theft after the attack but never reported the rape, authorities said. A Bronx police officer recognized the woman in the video, which initiated the investigation, Kenny said.

The video was posted on WhatsApp before going viral on social media.
