According to the sheriff’s office, Richards was working and living in Fernely around the time Filiatraut disappeared and left the state shortly thereafter.

Investigators discovered that Richards had moved to Colorado. With the assistance of local police, investigators obtained a search warrant for Richards and seized several pieces of evidence. Earlier this month, they issued an arrest warrant for Richards and charged him with first-degree murder.

Today, detectives traveled to Utah and arrested him along with local authorities and the United States Marshals Service. Richards was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail in Utah and is awaiting extradition to face trial in Lyon County.
