Greater Manchester Police have arrested a man in his 40s in connection with a series of rapes in Manchester city centre.

Officials are investigating a series of incidents dating back to February 2024 and believe the rapes were committed by the same man.

It is believed that the unnamed suspect targeted drunk men and women, raped them, stole their belongings and then disappeared.

The suspect was arrested on Sunday morning (July 21) and remains in police custody where he is being questioned by officers.

Detective Superintendent Richard Hunt of GMP’s Rape and Other Sexual Offences Unit said of the case that they take cases very seriously.

“Our professionals have supported and continue to support those involved in these incidents. We are doing everything we can to provide them with the appropriate care they need now,” he said.

“These are truly horrific crimes. No one should feel unsafe walking the streets of Greater Manchester.

“We remain committed to bringing justice to all victims of rape and we do not tolerate any form of sexual violence in our communities.”

He added that any case of rape or sexual abuse should be reported to the police as soon as possible.

“Every report will be thoroughly investigated and we will ensure that you and your loved ones are fully supported every step of the way in our pursuit of justice,” he continued.
