Florida man arrested for threatening Trump and Vance

A man in Florida was arrested after threatening to kill former President Trump and Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio), Trump’s new vice presidential nominee.

The Jupiter Police Department in Florida announced Friday that Michael Wiseman had been arrested for written death threats after an investigation revealed that he had written threats on social media against Trump, Vance and their families.

The police said they had become aware of the threat “through numerous reports of crimes on the Internet as well as through residents who expressed their concerns in person.”

Jupiter police investigated and found that he had threatened Trump, who was officially named the Republican Party’s presidential nominee at the Republican National Convention, and Vance, who was named Trump’s vice presidential nominee at the convention.

“There were also threats of physical harm against members of the Trump and Vance families,” police said.

Jupiter police said they coordinated the investigation with the Secret Service and the Palm Beach County District Attorney’s Office.

“JPD officers arrested Wiseman without incident,” police said.

The arrest followed the assassination attempt against Trump last Saturday. A gunman is said to have climbed onto a roof at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and had a clear view of the former president when he began shooting.

A bullet grazed Trump’s ear. One event attendee was killed and two others were seriously injured. The shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by police.

The assassination attempt occurred just a few days before the party congress.

The Hill has asked the Secret Service for comment.
