Hackney Council Deputy Speaker Lee Laudat-Scott has been charged with sexual abuse of a child – just days after submitting his resignation.

Laudat-Scott appeared before Thames Magistrates’ Court today charged with sexually abusing a boy under the age of 13.

He was also accused of sexually assaulting a man in Islington.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Lee Laudat-Scott, 48, appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 18 July. He was charged with sexual abuse of a child under 13 and sexual abuse by touching.

“He was released on bail to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday, August 15.

“Laudat-Scott was arrested on Wednesday, July 17, after an allegation was reported to police on July 9.”

Laudat-Scott was a Labour councillor for London Fields and deputy speaker until his resignation.

In May, he was elected deputy speaker and was a member of the City Hall’s Children and Youth Commission.

A Hackney Council spokesman said: “On Wednesday afternoon 10 July, our Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) was contacted with a child protection report.

“On Saturday, July 13, we accepted the resignation of Councillor Laudat-Scott.

“The Council was informed of his arrest on Wednesday 17 July.”

Hackney Mayor Caroline Woodley said: “I was horrified to hear of the allegations and subsequent charges. My thoughts are with the person who reported them.”

“As long as the criminal proceedings are ongoing, I cannot say anything further.”

Laudat-Scott was suspended from the Labour Party.
