Man charged with raping woman and sexually abusing child in Tenby – The Pembrokeshire Herald

When police officers were called to Tenby to assist a man they believed was having a “psychological attack”, they were subjected to a barrage of verbal abuse.

As officers led 19-year-old Jay Thomas to their police vehicle, they saw his head hit the roof of the vehicle.

“This created a dent in the roof that wasn’t there before,” prosecutor Abigail Jackson told Haverfordwest justices of the peace this week.

Thomas’ unacceptable behaviour continued when he was placed in a cell at Haverfordwest Police Station.

“He scratched his name into the wall, causing damage, and punched a chair during police questioning, calling the officers ‘pigs,'” Ms Jackson continued.

“There were concerns that he was also under the influence.”

Thomas, of Newell Hill, Tenby, pleaded guilty to uttering threatening words and behaving in a threatening manner and causing criminal damage to the police car and police cell.

He was represented in court by attorney Tom Lloyd.

“The police thought he was having a mental breakdown at the time and was clearly under the influence,” he said.

“During the police interrogation he did not mean what he said.

“His mother has a strict rule that he can’t go home if he’s drinking alcohol. He knew that, and that’s how this situation came about. He got angry and upset and made these stupid comments.”

After considering the mitigation of the sentence, the judges granted Thomas a conditional release for 12 months.

Thomas was ordered to pay £200 compensation for the damage to the police vehicle and police cell, £85 costs and £26 court costs.
