Man shot on I-376 in Pittsburgh in suspected incident of driving aggression

One man remained hospitalized Tuesday as Pittsburgh police continued to investigate a suspected road rage shooting on a ramp to the Parkway West. Pittsburgh Public Safety said the shooting occurred around 6:50 p.m. Sunday near Exit 69A on westbound Interstate 376. Rifle bullets were fired from a passing vehicle at another vehicle. The area is just outside the Fort Pitt Tunnel. The victim was found in a car with a gunshot wound to the eye and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, officials said. A picture of Bob Long shared with Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 shows him on his feet and walking in the hospital. His wife says Long has been upgraded to the lowest level of intensive care. Long is a father and grandfather who lives in Indiana and has been in the Pittsburgh area for work. Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 spoke with the senior pastor of Grace Assembly of God, a church where Long is heavily involved. “It’s hard to imagine putting yourself in that situation,” said Pastor Wayne Murray. “What if that happened to me? You’re driving — I know he travels a lot, so he’s probably been to that airport a lot, driven down that road a lot — and then he gets shot at just like that. He’s dealing with not only the physical injuries, but the emotional trauma that comes with it. So we’re not just praying for him physically. We’re praying for his full recovery because we know that’s going to be part of it, and then especially praying for his family. It’s a traumatic experience for the whole family.” Police are searching for a white Mazda SUV that fled the scene. Public Safety spokeswoman Cara Cruz said the vehicle was traveling westbound toward Banksville Road or I-376. No suspects have been identified. Investigators are looking for video of the incident.
