JD Vance calls for “comprehensive investigation” into Donald Trump assassination attempt: “Clearly mistakes were made”

Senator JD Vance of Ohio, Donald Trump’s vice presidential nominee, called for a “full investigation” into the assassination attempt on the former president. “We need to understand what happened because mistakes were clearly made,” Vance told Fox News.

“What concerns me is why a gunman fired a shot 137 meters away from the President of the United States.”

“The Secret Service ran there. They put their bodies in the air and reacted quickly. That’s not what concerns me. What concerns me is why there was a shooter 137 yards from the President of the United States,” Vance said.

Vance recalled that he was playing mini golf with his children on Saturday, July 13, when gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump. “My first reaction was to pray for him. I was terrified, of course, if President Trump had been killed, that would have been terrible, terrible, terrible. But the impact on the country would have been a world-historical tragedy. Thank God he was unharmed,” Vance said.

“I don’t know enough about the safety protocols, but I was a U.S. Marine. And 137 meters is nowhere near enough safety distance,” he added.

After the assassination, Vance made a statement on X. “Today is not an isolated incident,” he wrote. “The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs.”

“This rhetoric led directly to the assassination of President Trump,” he added.

After learning he was Trump’s nominee for vice president, Vance expressed his “gratitude” in a social media post. “I am simply overwhelmed with gratitude,” he wrote on X. “What an honor it is to run alongside President Donald J. Trump. He brought peace and prosperity once, and with your help, he will do it again. Here’s to winning!”
