Boarding school director sexually abuses 12-year-old student

Chief Judge E. Kubeinjeordered that Ogunbiyi should be detained at the facility pending a ruling by the state’s Attorney General. The court did not accept Ogunbiyi’s request.

However, Kubeinje postponed the case until July 24 to mention it. The prosecutor, Insp. John Iberedem had previously told the court that the suspect committed the crime sometime on June 18 between 10:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

Iberedem said the incident occurred at St. Francis Catholic Secondary School, Idimu Road, between Ikotun and Lagos. The prosecutor alleged that the suspect, a caretaker at the school, sexually abused the boy.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 261 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 261 provides for life imprisonment for such offences.
