Bipartisan call for investigation into Trump assassination

The shocking incident in rural Butler has raised significant concerns about security measures at political events and led MPs from both parties to demand accountability and improvements.

Torres issued a statement stressing the need to investigate the security failures that allowed the incident to occur. “The security failures surrounding the attempted assassination of a presidential candidate require an investigation,” Torres said. “The federal government must continually learn from security failures to avoid recurrences, especially when those failures impact the nation.”

The incident occurred shortly after Trump began his speech when several shots rang out, causing chaos among the thousands of attendees. Video footage shows Trump clutching his ear and crouching down as gunfire filled the rally. Blood could be seen on the right side of his face and ear as Secret Service agents quickly surrounded him and escorted him off the stage.

According to a witness at the scene who spoke to the BBC, passersby saw the suspected gunman take up position on the roof of an adjacent building. The witness said they tried in vain to attract the attention of police.

Late Saturday evening, the Republican National Committee announced that the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee would go ahead as planned and begin on Monday.
