Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Max Fried will head to Arlington, Texas, after being named to the National League All-Star team, MLB announced Saturday afternoon.

Fried received his second career All-Star nomination, and his first appearance came in 2022. Fried did not pitch in the 2022 game. due to injuryThere is no guarantee he will be in Tuesday’s game, but he will get his chance this time around.

The Braves now have four All-Stars this season as Fried will join fellow Braves starting pitchers Chris Sale and Reynaldo Lopez in Arlington, and outfielder Marcell Ozuna in Arlington.

It will be the first time since 1997 that the Braves will have three starting pitchers selected for the game.

Fried will replace Phillies starting pitcher Ranger Suarez in the All-Star Game. There were a few pitcher swaps between the Braves and Phillies on Saturday. Earlier in the day, Phillies left-hander Christopher Sanchez was chosen to replace Sale of the Braves. Sale will pitch Sunday and has withdrawn from the running for the starting job. A Phillies player replaced a Brave and vice versa.

This decision follows Suarez’s initial intention to pitch in the All-Star Game. There is currently no information on why Suarez is not participating in this game.

In 18 starts this season, Fried has a 3.08 ERA with a 1.157 WHIP, a 135 ERA+ and 95 strikeouts in 108 innings pitched. He also leads MLB with two complete games and one shutout.

In his last start, Fried struggled against Arizona Diamondbacks hitters for six innings, allowing just one run and striking out seven.

The 94th MLB All-Star Game will be held at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas on Tuesday, July 16. First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
