Man arrested after Chester County chase ends in horrific crash

CHESTER, SC (WBTV) – A man was arrested after a chase involving Chester County officials ended in a horrific crash Thursday morning. According to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect, identified as Eric Jones, was following accusation:

  • Driving despite driving ban
  • Failure to stop at blue light
  • Trafficking in fentanyl / 28 grams or more
  • Trafficking in methamphetamine / 28 grams or more
  • Possession with intent to distribute Annex I-III

Officers said they attempted to stop Jones around 6:30 a.m. in the area of ​​JA Cochran Bypass and Columbia Road in Chester.

When authorities discovered Jones was driving with a suspended license, he was asked to get out of the car, but he refused. Video shows Jones arguing with authorities, slamming his door and speeding away.

Eventually, the chase ended on Ashford Road when Jones was thrown through the air and crashed his vehicle. He was then arrested without incident and taken to the hospital for his injuries sustained in the collision and eventually taken to the Chester County Detention Center.

Officers said they seized approximately 112 grams of fentanyl, 56 grams of meth, an “assortment” of pills believed to be controlled substances, and $4,373 in cash.

“Considering that 2 milligrams of fentanyl is a potentially lethal dose, the amount of fentanyl seized during this traffic stop today is estimated to be nearly 56,000 lethal doses,” said Sheriff Max Dorsey.
