2 dead in collision on Highway 13 in Linn County

Two people died Sunday when their vehicle collided with another east of Cedar Rapids.

The accident occurred around 1 p.m. on Highway 13 at the intersection with Blaine’s Crossing Road, according to a press release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

Rescue workers found a Chevrolet Cruz and a Nissan Rogue on the median of Highway 13. The occupants of the Chevrolet Cruz were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and the only occupants of the Nissan Rogue were uninjured, the press release states.

The names of the people involved in the accident have not been released until family members have been notified.

The accident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office. Other responders included Linn County Sheriff’s EMS 57, Marion Police Department, Cedar Rapids Fire Department, West Bertram Fire Department and Area EMS.
