25-year-old man killed in shooting on South Side

According to Chicago police, a 25-year-old man died Saturday evening after being shot in the South Shore neighborhood.

According to police, the man was walking along the train tracks in the 1700 block of East 71st Street shortly after 8:30 p.m. when two armed men approached him.

According to police, there was an exchange of gunfire, the man was hit multiple times and was then taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later.

Upon arrival at the scene, a man claiming to be a relative of the victim crossed the crime scene tape, ran toward police officers, and asked for information about his relative’s whereabouts. Police ordered him to leave the scene and continued to operate the scene.

No one was in custody on Sunday and detectives from Area One were investigating.
