One dead in accident on I-495 near Route 24

RAYNHAM – One person was killed in a car crash on Interstate 495 in Raynham Saturday afternoon, police said.

State police responded to a report of an accident on Interstate 495 South, off Route 24 North, around 3:18 p.m.

“A single vehicle drove into the tree line and crashed. When emergency responders arrived, it was emitting smoke,” a state police spokesman said in an email.

The identity of the victim was not immediately disclosed.

The Massachusetts State Police Accident Analysis and Reconstruction Division and the Crime Scene Services Division arrived at the scene, as did State Police detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.

The right lane was closed for about four hours while the accident was being investigated.

The accident remains under investigation and state police have not provided any further information.
