HYDERABAD: 26-year-old Mohd Khaja Moinuddin was sentenced to a tough prison term of 10 years after a special fast-track court in LB Nagar found him guilty of kidnapping a minor girl from ST Lambada township under the guise of love and marriage to sexually harass her at Saroor Nagar of Rachakonda Commissionerate.

The girl was awarded compensation of Rs 1 lakh. Moinuddin was 19 years old at the time and worked as a debt collection manager for a private agency.

During the trial, the court examined the girl, her parents and other circumstantial witnesses as well as other witnesses to his arrest, found him guilty of the crime and awarded him a sentence.

Police said the case was reported in January 2017 and accused Moinuddin of sexually harassing and kidnapping the 15-year-old girl. The girl was then rescued from Secunderabad railway station. When asked, the girl revealed that the accused followed her while she was attending school and laid a trap for her in the name of love.

Police said the accused gained the girl’s trust and regularly took her out despite knowing she was a minor. Furthermore, he kidnapped her and imprisoned her in a remote place near Kacheguda and later dropped her near Secunderabad railway station from where she was rescued.

A case was subsequently filed against Moinuddin, he was arrested and remanded in custody. After completing the investigation, the police filed a chargesheet in the court, following which the court began the trial and announced the verdict on Thursday.
