New video shows two suspects wanted in connection with NYC bat attack, police say

NEW YORK – New video shows the suspects a woman attacked with a baseball bat last week on a street in New York City, police said.

The video seems show them while walking on a sidewalkwhile one is on the phone. It is unclear whether the video was recorded before or after the attack.

According to police, the woman was attacked on Monroe Street in Lower Manhattan around 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

Surveillance video shows her taking her cell phone out of her pocket as the suspects approach her from behind. One punches her while the other hits her multiple times with the baseball bat.

Investigators believe the suspects tried to steal her bag but ran away empty-handed.

The victim’s family told CBS New York: “The cries of passersby and the courageous intervention of community members deterred the perpetrator and led to a timely call for help. This may have averted even worse consequences.”

According to family, victim is afraid to return to work

Family members said the victim had just left the daycare where she works up the street before the attack. They said she is now afraid to return to her job.

The 58-year-old mother suffered bruises to her head and leg. Her family said she is currently recovering at home but needs help with daily activities.

“Our family is deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence and we believe it is important to share their story to raise awareness and demand justice,” they said in a statement.
