Woman arrested after body of alleged ex-lover found wrapped in back seat of crashed car

Police arrested a 32-year-old woman on suspicion of murder over the weekend after finding the body of her alleged ex-lover wrapped in the back seat of her crashed car, police said.

Suspect Margot Lewis of North Liberty, Iowa, was found standing on Interstate-90 in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 22, being comforted by a Good Samaritan next to her wrecked car.

But police soon realized she was not just the victim of a car accident: When they looked inside the vehicle, they found the bloody remains of 35-year-old Liara Kaylee Tsai of Minneapolis, Olmsted County police said.

“The condition of the deceased was suspicious and it was immediately clear that death was not the result of the car accident,” the police report states.

Tsai, of Minneapolis, was found wrapped in “a bedsheet, a blanket, a futon-like mattress and a tarp.”

An officer noticed a large wound on the right side of the woman’s neck and dried blood soaked through the bedsheet.

The local coroner believes the injuries were not caused by an accident, police said.

Police were informed on site on Saturday that Lewis and Tsai had previously entered into a civil partnership, KIMT3 reports.

Following the arrest, authorities executed a search warrant on Tsai’s Minneapolis home and discovered a scene suggestive of violence in the home.

Lewis is being held on $1 million bail in Olmsted County, but has asked to be transferred to Hennepin County on a lower bail amount.

“The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Liara Tsai,” a press release said.
