Salvation Army Hope on Main Project Moves Forward

The Salvation Army’s three-year, $12 million fundraising campaign in Buffalo is moving forward.

The Hope on Main Project has so far raised $3 million, surpassing its fundraising goal in the first part of the three-phase project.

Phase 1 will see the complete rebuild of the Salvation Army’s emergency family shelter on Main Street. Phases 2 and 3 of the project, expected to be completed in 2027, will see the construction of an affordable housing complex, community center and church in the heart of downtown Buffalo.

“When the wages are there and the mortgages and rents and loans are there, more and more people are not going to be able to afford the places they live in,” said Buffalo Council Member Mitch Nowakowski. “You deserve to have affordable housing. and beautiful location on Main and Allen. You deserve to be able to walk around downtown Buffalo and be able to live here and contribute. As we see the multiple phases of this project, I know everyone will continue to be amazed.

All phases of the Hope on Main project are estimated to cost $100 million.

Officials say New York State, Erie County and the City of Buffalo are also providing funding to complete the project.
