Dayton police ask public for help after eight people were shot and one killed overnight

According to reports, a shooting occurred early Monday morning at a large gathering in Dayton, Ohio, about an hour’s drive west of Columbus, leaving one person dead and seven injured.

According to WHIOTV and ABC 6, Dayton police and paramedics were dispatched to the area where a shooting was reported around 1 a.m. Monday.

At least eight people were shot, police Sergeant Creigee Coleman said at a press conference posted on the ABC 6 website.

USA TODAY has reached out to Dayton police.

‘We need your help’

The police are asking for help in identifying the suspect(s). The public’s help is needed “so that something like this doesn’t happen again,” Coleman said.

“Folks, we need to know exactly who caused this situation, who is responsible for this situation,” Coleman said.
