4 shootings in Sacramento, including one fatal, on Sunday strain police resources

SACRAMENTO – Sacramento police are investigating several shootings Sunday in Sacramento, one of which ended in death.

After 2 p.m. Sunday, a man died at the scene of a gunshot wound on Arden Way near Del Paso Boulevard, police said. No suspect is in custody.

This was just over a mile from where the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a shooting that occurred late Saturday night and left one injured.

The first shooting on Sunday occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 100 block of K Street in Sacramento. A man was found in a car with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital.

Then around noon, a man with a gunshot wound, now in critical condition, was found in the 2700 block of 5th Street, near Vallejo Way in Upper Land Park. No suspect is in custody.

The fourth shooting on Sunday occurred just before 5:30 p.m. Initial reports indicated someone fired into the air. The incident occurred in the 5100 block of McGlashan Street.

“It’s unfortunate, we don’t want anyone to be shot in our city, but now that it’s happened, we need to investigate the incident and find out who did it,” said Officer Anthony Gamble, Sacramento Police spokesman.

According to initial police reports, no one appeared to have been hit, but officers who responded to the call found evidence of a shooting.

Due to the investigation at Arden Way and 5th Street, which continued for hours after the initial call, Sacramento Police Department resources were nearly exhausted.

“We have two different crime scenes in two different locations, so that will put some strain on our investigative unit at this time, but our top-notch investigators will do their jobs,” Gamble said.

Anyone with information, including witness statements, videos or after-the-fact information regarding any of these shootings is asked to contact the Sacramento Police Department at (916) 808-5471.
