One person dead in northwest Atlanta car crash: police

ATLANTA — One person died and two others were injured after a car crash in Atlanta Saturday evening, police said.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded to a report of a vehicle crash with injuries on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard. NW and North Ave. NW shortly after 11:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles involved in the incident: a Ford Edge and a Volkswagen Jetta. The 33-year-old female driver of the Ford Edge was sent to hospital in stable condition, as was the 31-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen Jetta, police said.

However, a 31-year-old passenger in the Ford Edge was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The man’s name is currently unknown.

APD said preliminary information indicates the Ford Edge was westbound on North Ave NW and turning left onto Joseph E. Lowery Blvd NW when the driver stopped at the intersection and was struck by the Volkswagen Jetta heading north on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard NW.

Investigators from the APD Accident Investigation Unit responded to determine the circumstances of the incident. This is an active investigation, police said.
